Super Good Day

I’m in a book club, sort of. I’m kind of a slacker member and I participate when they select a book that peaks my interest. This month’s selection is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I decided to participate.
The story is told through the eyes of an autistic boy, Christopher, who dreams of being a detective. He hates the colors yellow and brown and loves the color red. These colors greatly affect his life. He won’t eat food that is brown or yellow and uses red food coloring on a regular basis. If he sees 4 yellow cars on his way to school, it is going to be a bad day. He calls this a Black Day. On these days he doesn’t speak or eat. If he sees 5 red cars on his way to school it’s going to be a Super Good Day. Christopher convinces himself something special will happen to him on Super Good Days.
After two Black Days in a row, Christopher closes his eyes the entire way to school, “because after I have two Black Days in a row, I’m allowed to do that. (p. 53)”
It’s easy to think Christopher is ridiculous for letting something like color determine his mood on a particular day, but I have let something just as insignificant effect my mood–a rainy day, a small argument, a traffic jam. And while it may not be good to close my eyes while in a traffic jam, I think I could learn something from Christopher…

Um, didn't I already recommend this book to you? But now that Rachel recommends it, suddenly it's golden? Hmmm, I see how it works…
hahhaa! oh my, i'd forgotten this!! i am in need of some recommendations. preferably those containing "good words AND good story" (your definition, right?)
I'm hurt. No one recommended this book to me. Now my day is ruined.
